Day of Religious Freedom 2027
January 13, 2027

The Diet of Torda in 1568 proclaimed the freedom of preaching, regarded as one of Europe's first laws on religious freedom. In its memory, the Hungarian Parliament declared 13 January the Day of Religious Freedom in 2018. The day is especially celebrated by the Unitarian Church, which traces its foundation to that year.
The Unitarian churches of Székely Land – such as those in Énlaka, a Homoródkarácsonyfalva or Székelyderzs – are living monuments to the Transylvanian tradition of religious tolerance.
The date is for guidance only; the exact programme is published by the local parish. For more feasts of the church year, see our article Pilgrimages and Feasts in Székely Land .
