Reformed Fortress Church – Târgu Mureș

A marosvásárhelyi református vártemplom a város legrégebbi épülete. A középkori ferences kolostor templomaként épült, és a 17. század elején emelt városi vár falai között áll.

The Franciscans appear in the sources in 1316. The Gothic church may have been built in the last third of the 14th century, and in the mid-15th century – with the support of Hunyadi János – it was expanded with a new nave and a northern tower. Dendrochronological studies indicate that the oak beams of the roof structure of the sanctuary were cut in 1479–1480.

A reformáció idején, a 16. század közepén a templom a református gyülekezet használatába került. A 17. század elején Borsos Tamás főbíró kezdeményezésére a templom körül kezdték építeni a városi várat; Bethlen Gábor fejedelem 1616-ban szabad királyi városi rangot adott Marosvásárhelynek, és engedélyezte a falak felhúzását. A 18. században a templom barokk mennyezetet és stukkódíszítést kapott.

Of the medieval frescoes, the scene of the martyrdom of Saint Leonard was discovered in 1940, and during the most recent restoration, fragments of the legend of Saint Ladislaus were also revealed on the northern wall of the ship.

Visit: a templom a marosvásárhelyi vár területén áll, a várral együtt a város egyik legfontosabb látnivalója; nyitvatartásáról a református egyházközség ad tájékoztatást.
