The Franciscans played a key role: besides the friary at Cs\u00edksomly\u00f3, in the 17th century they also had houses at Mikh\u00e1za, Gyergy\u00f3sz\u00e1rhegy and Esztelnek, with schools and libraries \u2013 and a printing press at Cs\u00edksomly\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p>The high point of the year for Catholic communities is the b\u00facs\u00fa, the feast of the church\u2019s patron saint or title. On that day pilgrims arrive from the surrounding villages in parish groups, carrying a cross and banners and singing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"pg-vt-gomb-sor\"><a class=\"pg-ut-gomb pg-ut-gomb-vilagos\" href=\"https:\/\/peregrinus.hu\/en\/religious-tourism\/\">Read more: the history of religious tourism<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"jelek\">How to recognise the church<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"pg-fk-jelek\">\n<li>A cross on top of the tower, and often a crucifix or a statue of Our Lady in the churchyard.<\/li>\n<li>In the sanctuary: the high altar and the tabernacle, with a sanctuary lamp burning beside it to show the presence of the Blessed Sacrament.<\/li>\n<li>Altarpieces and statues, with the fourteen Stations of the Cross on the walls.<\/li>\n<li>A holy water font at the entrance: the faithful bless themselves with it as they enter.<\/li>\n<li>In Cs\u00edk many churches are surrounded by stone walls: these fortified churches sheltered the villagers in times of danger.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"mise\">If you attend Mass<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"pg-vt-etikett\">\n<li>On Sunday mornings parishes celebrate Mass, larger churches several times. The Mass times are posted on the church door or at the parish office.<\/li>\n<li>Mass lasts about an hour.
