The Latin peregrinus word means foreigner or wanderer \u2013 hence the concept of pilgrimage. Pilgrimage is not merely a journey to a holy place: the journey itself, the silence of walking, the landscape and the shared prayer are its essence. The Maria Way is a pilgrimage route connecting Marian shrines across Central Europe. Its main axis runs from Mariazell in Austria to the Cs\u00edksomly\u00f3Ig in Transylvania, over a distance of approximately 1,400 kilometers. It can be walked in about six days on foot, but most people complete it in stages. The route is marked and pilgrim hostels are located along it, and it can also be traveled by bicycle. Many people arrive on foot or in groups from the surrounding villages for the Pentecostal farewell; the length of the sections is typically 20\u201350 kilometers. The Pentecostal Saturday Mass is held in the Little and Nagysomly\u00f3 Middle Niche, at the open-air Three Saints altar \u2013 the ceremony has been held outdoors since the 1990s because the church and its surroundings could no longer accommodate the hundreds of pilgrims. Following the footsteps of Saint Ladislaus<\/p>

The memory of the Knight King is not only preserved in the chapels of the churches. At the backbone separating Cs\u00edto and Gyimes, the St. Ladislaus Chapel stands on the Pog\u00e1ny Lake; according to tradition, the hoof of Ladislaus\u2019 horse can be seen in the nearby K\u00fcp\u00fcs well. In Cs\u00edkszentsimon, a pilgrimage is held on June 27, the day of the king\u2019s consecration as a saint; the name of Cs\u00edksz\u00e9pv\u00edz originates from the source from which Ladislaus\u2019 horse drank.
