St Anne's Pilgrimage at Lake St Anne

The pilgrimage feast of the St Anne Chapel on the shore of the lake in the crater of the Csomád Mountains is held on 26 July or the nearest weekend – in 2027 St Anne's Day falls on a Monday, and the preceding weekend is 24–25 July. The chapel is cared for by the parish of Lázárfalva; the ceremony includes a procession around the lake.
The pilgrimage has a turbulent history: Bishop Ignác Batthyány banned it in 1786, it was permitted again in 1830 and banned once more in 1844 – but since 1990 it has been held regularly again.
The date is for guidance only; the exact programme is published by the local parish. For more feasts of the church year, see our article Pilgrimages and Feasts in Székely Land .
