Felvidék is the southern strip of present-day Slovakia, where a sizeable Hungarian community still lives from the Žitný ostrov (Csallóköz) to the Bodrogköz.
The region holds key sites of Hungarian history: the coronation church of Bratislava (Pozsony), the cathedral of Košice (Kassa) with the Rákóczi crypt, the Pauline shrine of Marianka (Máriavölgy) – where the Hungarians of Slovakia hold a pilgrimage every year – and the Árpád-era churches of Bíňa (Bény) by the Hron.
