Transylvania and Partium

Historic Transylvania, Partium and the Banat form the large and diverse eastern part of the Carpathian Basin, where the Hungarian Catholic, Reformed and Unitarian churches have been present for centuries.

Here stand the cathedral of Alba Iulia (Gyulafehérvár), centre of the thousand-year-old Transylvanian bishopric, Oradea (Nagyvárad), home of the cult of King Saint Ladislaus, the Gothic St Michael’s Church of Cluj-Napoca (Kolozsvár) and the shrine of Maria Radna in the Banat, which still draws tens of thousands of pilgrims.
