Prekmurje is the north-eastern corner of Slovenia between the Mura river and the Hungarian border; an autochthonous Hungarian community still lives around Lendava (Lendva).
Its medieval churches decorated with frescoes – such as the pilgrimage church of Turnišče (Bántornya) or the rotunda of Selo (Nagytótlak) – are closely related to the churches of the neighbouring Őrség and Göcsej regions and reflect their shared medieval heritage.
